Appalachian Mountains

Fine art photographs of the peaceful beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, mainly from North Carolina and Tennessee.

I have been photographing the mountains of Western North Carolina maybe longer than any other location, except possibly South Florida. I have family in Cashiers, on the Highlands Plateau, and I try to visit at least once a year. With Cashiers as my home base, I usually don’t have to travel far to take photos. While the entire greater area of the Smoky Mountains is full of lush forests, the Highlands Plateau itself is actually a small area that qualifies to be a temperate rain forest. This means a wealth of creeks, waterfalls, and extreme green. I enjoy travelling farther away at times, such as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, but most of the photographs you’ll find here are from the Highlands-Cashiers vicinity.
