Small Gully After Spring Freeze – Great Smoky Mountains
A small stream has become cloaked in icicles after a spring freeze, in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
This photo is from Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in Tennessee. Spring had begun, or so I had thought. But in my defense, the landscape had thought so too. The effort to green itself was already underway — the moss was beginning to shine its lovely shade of emerald, and the trees were beginning to show signs of new growth. But, as often is the case in late March in these mountains, another freeze was in store. The high mountain ridges were turned into a white winter wonderland, but I never made it that far — I was transfixed by the juxtaposition of the springtime hues with the beautiful ice sculptures that awaited me in the valleys below.
