Corkscrew Falls is a small rapids in the headwaters of the Chattooga River, pictured here in autumn.

This is yet another autumn scene from the sublime Chattooga River in Western North Carolina. Corkscrew Falls is actually the small waterfall in the background of the photograph. It’s only referred to by that name by a handful of locals, but then again, only a handful of locals are granted access to this location. It’s privately owned by a small group of fishermen. I’ve been told there is another better-known waterfall by the same name further downstream the same river, but I prefer the solitude and peacefulness of this one. On this morning, it was just me and the leaves.
