Albizia niopoides – Trees on White
A giant specimen of Alibiza niopoides, with a ficus epiphyte growing at its crotch.
This is the Albizia niopoides entry in my “Trees on White” series. Although I don’t know much about the species, I have always loved this particular tree. This stunning specimen is located in Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in South Florida, which is one of my favorite places. It’s hard to imagine that this tree would be easy to miss, but it actually is. Fairchild is filled to the brim with massive trees, and this one is a bit off to the side. But it’s definitely worth finding. To me, its strong branches and thin bark create a form reminiscent of lean human muscle. The epiphyte growing at its crotch (a ficus) only adds to the imagery.
