The cliffs of California’s Marin Headlands face the setting sun, while the Pacific Ocean laps at Rodeo Beach below.

Pictured here are the sea-stacks and cliffs at Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands just north of San Francisco, California. This beach is a popular destination for surfers in the Bay Area. It’s also popular among photographers looking for rocky coastline and beautiful sunset. This photograph is from my first trip to the beach, and I was smitten by its beauty. In addition to the geological beauty, there is nice flora too. For instance, this photograph features ice plant succulent blooming in the foreground. While ice plant has become iconic and does add to the beauty, it’s unfortunately exotic and invasive. Furthermore, it acts as a moisture sink, and therefore is accelerating coastline erosion. Especially ironic, since it was imported precisely to slow down soil erosion.
